Henna is a small shrub native to West Asia and North Africa, called Lawsonia Inermis in Botanical terms. The leaves are picked, dried, and pulverized to a fine powder. It is a natural base for hair coloring and cosmetic use and an alternative to the chemical tints which may have side-effects. It has been in use in India for hundreds of years as a hair dye & conditioner.

When used for hair coloring, Henna plates and protects the hair shaft, allowing the color chosen  to be reflected through the hair, while enhancing the natural color. Henna is also a conditioner.

Regular use of Henna texturizes hair, giving it body which becomes more evident on each application. “Neutral” Henna deposits no color on hair. It can be used as a conditioner once a month. It adds body and shine to fine, dull lifeless hair. Your hair color seems brighter because the hair has more shine. Henna has no lifting action, so the color you choose will depend on the natural or tinted hair color that you have.

Mehendi…
Mehendi originated in Egypt and in Middle Eastern countries during ancient times, and it was spread to India by the Muslims.

Since the twelfth century, Mehendi has been used all over India. Mehendi came into use because of its cooling therapeutic effect in a hot climate and, in India, it was also a way for a bride and groom to get to know one another before an arranged marriage.

Recently, Mehendi has become popularized in the West by musicians and Hollywood personalities and is now a quickly rising trend among women and men alike in world culture.

The art varies from country to country, spanning different cultures and religious traditions, and making it possible to recognize distinctions in cultural style. Other tribes or people that use Mehendi are: Arabs, Africans (North Africa), Asian and Middle Eastern.

Before the wedding the bride and many other women would gather together for a bonding ritual.

In this ritual the women would cover the bride’ hands and arms up to her elbows and feet and legs up to her knees in Mehendi designs.

After the wedding, while the Mehendi is still present on her body, the bride does not have to do any housework. Because women do such hard work as house wives in these countries, it is very important that the Mehendi stays for a long period of time. The decoration period can take up to five hours making the design very intricate and beautiful. The amount of time spent on the Mehendi is also used to teach the new bride patience. Arranged marriages were and are still often used in India and the Middle East. Because of this, the bride and groom aren’t usually familiar with each other.

The women hide the name of the groom in the bride’s Mehendi. Before the marriage the bride and groom meet to get to know each other better. To do this, the groom has to find his name in the bride’s Mehendi. This is also for good luck. If the groom finds his name in the bride’s Mehendi it is a sign that they will have a long and happy marriage. Mehendi contains magic. According to a nomadic Moroccan tribe called the Berbers, henna has been known in the East from ancient times to the present day for its power to protect, to bring luck and to provide material as well as spiritual wealth, most especially when used in ceremonies having to do with rites of passage.

In general, henna is thought of as a lucky charm or blessing. It wards off the evil eye, guards against black magic, harmful genies, and all other dangerous supernatural forces or entities.

Mehendi Ceremonies: Mehendi is used during these times to celebrate a very important event.

This ceremony can be strictly for the individual, for a family, or for a large number of people.

Cultural events and gatherings where Mehendi is used are: childbirth, a girl’s first menstrual period & weddings. These are extremely important events according to Middle Eastern and Indian cultures. Mehendi is very cooling: Mehendi art started because of a need to cool down under the hot sun.

The practice of Mehendi started out as a means of air-conditioning in the desert. Among its mystical and medicinal properties, the henna plant’s (Lawsonia Inermis is its botanical name) chief ability is to cool down the human body.

Eventually, they found one large dot in the palm of hand had the same effect. Other small dots were placed around it which gradually gave way to artistic designs. From this they decided to get extremely creative with extravagant lacy lines, flowers, and birds particularly peacocks.

Henna/Mehendi Enhances Beauty: Women will stain their nails, skin, and hair with henna.

Henna cosmetics are made from the Egyptian evergreen plant, Lawsonia inermis (henna).

There are four main types of Mehendi styles according to different cultures. Although Mehendi exists all over the East through different tribes and people, they each fall under one of these categories: Arabic, Indian, African (North Africa), and Asian and Middle Eastern. Arabic Mehendi features large, floral patterns on hands and feet, while Indian Mehendi uses fine line, lacy, floral and paisley patterns covering entire hands, forearms, feet and shins.

When fatty, oily materials clog the pores of the skin, an inflammation occurs, resulting to a chronic skin condition known as acne. Acne, if not immediately treated, can possibly result to permanent scarring on the face, neck, and back.

There are several ways of treating acne at home; the ones that are mentioned below are easily prepared and always available. Why not open the fridge and see what you can find in the vegetable compartment, chances are big, that you will find the ingredients needed for an effective natural remedy for acne.

1. Aloe Vera that is taken internally is effective in treating acne. Its juice can also be applied on skin areas that have acne.

2. Rose water mixed with sandalwood paste can also be applied on the face for 30 minutes before rinsing it off.

10. Cooked oatmeal can also be applied on the skin for about 15 minutes. Then wash off.

11. The mixture of avocado paste and water can be a good facial wash.

12. A warm bath with rosemary and blanch of nettle can also help in the reduction of acne.

13. Egg white can also be an effective acne remedy when applied on the acne for at least 15 to 20 minutes.

14. Ground bay leaves that are blanched in water and are cooled afterwards can also be applied on the skin with acne.

15. Lavender compresses can be used to relieve the inflammation of acne.

16. You can blend the following fruit and vegetable: Peeled apple, half serving of cucumber, 1 tablespoon of yogurt and honey. The end-product can be applied on the skin for about 20 minutes before rinsing off with lukewarm water. This will reduce acne scars.

17. Paste from the mixture of powdered and roasted pomegranate and fresh lemon juice can be applied over blackheads, pimples, and acne.

18. Paste formed from water and fresh leaves of fenugreek can be applied overnight and rinsed off the next morning with lukewarm water.

Remedies for acne that can be done at home are really easy to come up with. But to achieve best results, the appropriate supplementation of vitamins and minerals should be done as well.

Natural Beauty Tips For Fairness

Natural:

These are genuine tips. In these types of tips, we generally use all natural things like vegetables, fruits and their pulp. Many people prefer natural beauty tips as they are not only safe but even zero cost effective.

Cosmetic:

The other beauty tips are cosmetic ones. Here chemicals or artificial agents are used to make skin fairer. These include mud packs and other fairness creams or mixture of chemical agents.

While cosmetic methods are not usually adviced, natural beauty tips for fair skin are highly recommended not just by experts but even by me. In fact, cosmetic tips may or may not yield results whereas natural beauty tips yields best results. Dig more into various beauty tips for fair skin.

Here Are The Top Homemade Beauty Tips For Fair Skin
Honey:
Honey is one of the best methods of getting fair skin folks. Just get a tea spoon of honey and apply it on your face and massage gently in circular motion. You are supposed to do this at least twice a day-morning and before going to bed. After a couple of weeks, you will notice that your skin has turned into lite golden complexion. Please note that you should not use milk with honey as it’s not advisable.

Papaya:
Yes, you read it right my friends. Papaya might be overheat to body if consumed but it can be boon to your skin if you use it as a topical medicine. Are you wondering what is this topical medicine now? Topical medicine is something that’s applied externally. So, papaya can rightly be called topical medicine.

Just take a papaya. Peel off the skin and crush the fruit so that it becomes like a thick paste. Apply this paste on your face. You can even use it on your arms (as they get exposed to sun and prone to tan). Allow the paste to be on your face at least for an hour. If you are a person who have no time to concentrate so much, you can simply apply and do your regular work like getting ready for office. After an hour, you can wash off. This process you need to do for at least three months to find the difference.

Tulasi (Basil):
Tulasi is the gift of God. It not only cures illnesses if consumed but can even work wonders on skin. Believe me, people who used tulasi juice on their skin got relief from all sorts of skin diseases and even noticed that complexion became fair. Therefore, Tulasi juice is now a best remedy to say good bye to sun tan and get fair skin back.

Take a few Tulasi leaves. Grind them with stone and then apply it on your skin gently. Leave it like that for a couple of minutes and then wash the face with luke warm water. Do this for up to three weeks and you will realize the difference within a few weeks.

Rose water:
Rose water promises you a fair skin in very less time. You can purchase already available rose petals or simply peel off rose petals and allow them to soak in water for a day. Now apply this water on face regularly. If possible, whenever you wash your face, you can wash with rose water. Remember not to apply soap when you wash your face with rose water. There are many cases wherein people used rose water and got not just fair complexion but close to pink complexion.

Turmeric:

If you are in India, you must be very well aware of the good effects of turmeric. In fact, Hindu women use turmeric to paint their feet. This is said to be holy. However, studies proved that women who used turmeric got fair complexion. Since turmeric is not costly, it’s the best thing you can try out friends. Apply turmeric on your face, hands and feet regularly in the morning and before you go to bed. You can notice fair complexion in no time.

Beauty Tips For Hair

Beauty Tips For Hair

Eggs, yogurt and honey are, at first glance, all components of a tasty breakfast—but they also happen to be hair treatment ingredients, and affordable, all-natural ones at that. And they're not the only ones. Did you know, for instance, that the oils in avocados more closely resemble our own skin's oils than any product in the beauty aisle does? Or that the mild acidity in lemon is an effective—and gentler—alternative to chemical-laden products? Next time your locks need a lift, save money by using one of these kitchen fixes.

For All Hair Types

"The [raw] egg is really the best of all worlds," says Janice Cox, author of Natural Beauty at Home. The yolk, rich in fats and proteins, is naturally moisturizing, while the white, which contains bacteria-eating enzymes, removes unwanted oils, she explains.
To Use: For normal hair, use the entire egg to condition hair; use egg whites only to treat oily hair; use egg yolks only to moisturize dry, brittle hair, Cox says. Use 1/2 cup of whichever egg mixture is appropriate for you and apply to clean, damp hair. If there isn’t enough egg to coat scalp and hair, use more as needed. Leave on for 20 minutes, rinse with cool water (to prevent egg from “cooking”) and shampoo hair. Whole egg and yolks-only treatments can be applied once a month; whites-only treatment can be applied every two weeks.

For Dull Hair

Styling products (as well as air pollution) can leave a film that both saps moisture and dulls shine—but dairy products like sour cream and plain yogurt can help reverse this damage. "Lactic acid gently strips away dirt while the milk fat moisturizes," says Lisa Belkin, author of The Cosmetics Cookbook.
To Use: Massage 1/2 cup sour cream or plain yogurt into damp hair and let sit for 20 minutes. Rinse with warm water, followed by cool water, then shampoo hair as you normally would. Treatment can be applied every other week.

For Itchy Scalp

To fight flakes—brought on by poor diet, stress and climate, among other factors—try a lemon juice and olive oil mixture in your hair. "The acidity in lemon juice helps rid your scalp of any loose, dry flakes of skin, while the olive oil moisturizes the [newly exposed] skin on your head," says Cox.
To Use: Mix 2 Tbsp fresh lemon juice, 2 Tbsp olive oil and 2 Tbsp water, and massage into damp scalp. Let mixture sit for 20 minutes, then rinse and shampoo hair. Treatment can be applied every other week.

For Limp or Fine Hair

To add body to hair, reach for an unlikely beauty beverage: beer! The fermented drink contains generous supplies of yeast, which works to plump tired tresses, explains Cox.
To Use: Mix 1/2 cup flat beer (pour beer into a container and let it sit out for a couple of hours to deplete carbonation) with 1 tsp light oil (sunflower or canola) and a raw egg. Apply to clean, damp hair, let sit for 15 minutes, then rinse with cool water. Or add flat beer only to a spray bottle and spritz onto dry hair. "When the liquid evaporates, the remaining protein residue (from the wheat, malt or hops) continues to strengthen and structure hair," says Belkin. Treatments can be applied every other week.

For Dry or Sun-Damaged Hair

Whatever your hair-dehydrating demon—hard water, sun overexposure, your trusty flat iron—nature's sweetener can help. "Honey is a natural humectant, which means it attracts and locks in moisture," says Cox.
To Use: Massage approximately 1/2 cup honey into clean, damp hair, let sit for 20 minutes, then rinse with warm water. You can also add 1 to 2 Tbsp olive oil to loosen the honey for easier application. For extremely sun-damaged hair, trying mixing honey with 1 to 2 Tbsp of a protein-rich ingredient, like avocado or egg yolk, which will help replenish the keratin protein bonds that UV rays attack. Treatment can be applied once a month.

For Oily or Greasy Hair

"Used properly, [cornmeal or cornstarch] is an inexpensive way to remove oil and grease," says Belkin.
To Use: Pour 1 Tbsp cornmeal or cornstarch into an empty salt or pepper shaker and sprinkle onto dry hair and scalp until you’ve used it all. After 10 minutes, use a paddle hairbrush to completely brush it out. Treatment can be applied every other day.

For Frizzy Hair

Home beauty experts swear by avocado—and not just to repair damaged hair. Its oils (which are light and moist like our own natural skin secretions) and proteins boast the best combination of nutrients for smoothing and weighing down unruly hair, explains Cox.
To Use: Mash up half an avocado and massage into clean, damp hair. Let sit for 15 minutes before rinsing with water. Amp up moisturizing power by combining mashed avocado with 1 to 2 Tbsp of a hydrating ingredient, like sour cream, egg yolks or mayonnaise. Treatment can be applied every two weeks.

For Residue-Ridden Hair

"Nothing eats through product buildup like baking soda," Cox says. Sodium bicarbonate essentially breaks down anything acidic.
To Use: Mix 1 to 2 Tbsp baking soda with small amounts of water until a thick paste forms. Massage into damp hair and let sit for 15 minutes. Rinse with water, then shampoo hair. Treatment can be applied every two weeks.

Tips For Glowing Skin
Beautiful glowing smooth skin is desirable by every woman and appreciated by every man. Genetically, we are wired to be attracted to people with clear skin and a glowing complexion because it's a sign of good health. Ayurveda has some time-proven tricks to make your skin clear, soft, and radiant without spending a fortune or loading up on chemicals.

First, let's see why our skin tends to become rough, dry, and irritated during certain seasons and with age. According to Ayurveda, it happens due to the accumulation of Vata in the body. Vata predominates in the Fall and early Winter, and in people over the age of 50. When there is excess Vata, we are prone to dry skin, cracking joints, thinning dry hair, and brittle nails. Vata can also show up in the body earlier if you're really stressed, have a Vata disturbing diet or live in a Vata inducing climate (cold and dry). The secret to staying young is keeping Vata at bay.

Here are some Ayurvedic tips that will slow down Vata accumulation in the body and will help you stay young and keep your skin beautiful.

1. Don't Skip the Veggies - Stick to high-water content vegetables that are easier to digest, such as lettuce, carrot, cucumber, daikon radish (which is revered by Ayurvedic healers for its purifying properties), fennel, and tender asparagus tips. These vegetables are tridoshic: they are good for all types of skin. Combine at least 3 and enjoy with a simple olive oil-lemon juice dressing.

2. Eat Like a Bird - Both traditional and Ayurvedic medicine agree that adding seeds and nuts into your diet will improve the condition of your skin. Vata is drying by nature so all foods that have natural healthy fats in them will prevent this imbalance. Nuts and seeds are a perfect food -- they contain Omega-3s, healthy fats, and fiber to help a weakened Vata digestion. My favorite snack is GoRaw Sunflower Flax Snax. You can also try adding almonds, sunflower seeds, flax seeds, and other nuts to your oatmeal (or having them as your afternoon snack, when Vata naturally predominates).

3. Sip Some Tea - Vata is dry and cold by nature so your skin will stay younger looking longer, if your keep these two qualities at bay. Stay hydrated throughout the day and give preference to warm liquids, such as herbal tea. Making some spicy tea with fresh ginger and lemon will wake you up in the afternoon and keep your digestion healthy, which is important for glowing skin.

4. Pump It Up - Exercising is necessary in preventing cold Vata from accumulating. Modern doctors advise exercising to keep your muscles and joints healthy and toned, while helping you sweat out toxins. Exercise will also improve blood circulation, digestion, and give you a healthy blush! Choose the type of exercise that makes you feel good and gives you energy without exhausting you. Whether it is walking, jogging, dancing, yoga, or boxing -- you should enjoy it and have fun moving your body.

5. Breathe In and Release - High levels of emotional and mental stress is one of the major reasons why Vata gets aggravated (Not good!). It literally sucks out all the vital juices from your skin making it dehydrated. Meditation and breathing can be very effective stress busters that you might want to consider. To get started with yogic breathing, lie on your back or seat comfortably, place one palm on your belly, and another one on your chest. Start inhaling into your belly, letting it slightly rise, then keep inhaling into your ribs, expanding the ribcage up and out, letting the air completely fill up your lungs by inhaling all the way up into your chest. Mentally keep track of your breathing -- your belly, ribs, and chest. On your exhales, let the air move in the opposite order -- chest, ribs, and  belly sinking in. Do this simple yet very effective breathing technique for 5-10 minutes when you need to calm down whether it is before an important meeting or right before you fall asleep.

6. Doze off with Sunset - Aggravated Vata often causes restlessness which can lead to insomnia (Not good for your skin!). Any skin care professional or Ayurvedie doctor will agree on the fact that getting at least seven hours of sleep is a good thing when it comes to having a healthy and glowing complexion. If you have trouble falling asleep, try a full yogic breathing described above or use this one before going to bed.

7. Take Skin Moisturizer to a New Level - Staying hydrated on the inside is important but you shouldn't forget about taking care of your skin from the outside, as well. Cleansing and moisturizing are the most crucial to keeping your skin healthy and young. An oil massage is the best remedy for dry skin.  For the best absorption, anti-aging oil massages should be done at night. Apricot oil applied 2-3 times a week at night makes my skin feel very smooth and healthy. Once a week give yourself (or ask your partner to give you) a full body massage with oil. It stimulates healthy blood circulation, lymph drainage, reduces water retention, and keeps your romantic relationship exciting! Abhyanga, a full body oil massage, calms the mind, leaving you feeling grounded yet focused and alert, and balances emotions. Using natural organic oils is also a lot cheaper than chemical-loaded lotions found at a pharmacy.
